House Republicans Create Process for Selecting an Endorsed Speaker Candidate

(Austin, Texas) -- Today, the Texas House Republican Caucus unanimously adopted a bylaws change that will allow House Republicans to select an endorsed speaker candidate within the caucus for future legislative sessions. The bylaws call for the endorsed nominee to be selected by a super majority of their Republican colleagues during December of every even-numbered year by secure secret ballot, consistent with the Texas Republican Party’s platform. The process voted upon today will help ensure that the next Speaker will have broad support from the House Republican Caucus.

“I am proud of our caucus members working collaboratively as a body over the past four months to address this issue and I look forward to us working together during the next legislative session,” said Chairman Tan Parker.
